Mike Hunter (Managing Director) has over 28 years consulting experience working in senior roles with Price Waterhouse, PA Consulting Group, TCS (part of Tata) and Cognizant before setting up the UK’s largest network consulting firm, K2 Consulting Partners. Mike has spent his career delivering large successful programs and projects across a variety of sectors, including banking, working with both the business and IT. Drawing on his skills as a qualified accountant and being an ex CFO, he focuses on value and ensuring the core business benefits are delivered hand in hand with successful IT delivery. One of Mike’s largest programs was as program lead for the largest core banking replacement in North America, where the IT focus was replaced with a business driven business case.

Nigel Pinches (Executive Director)has been active in the Financial Services industry for 30 years .He held senior and executive management positions in IBM including executive responsibility for one of the top 6 global banks. In addition he led the Banking Industry Front Office renewal program in EMEA, Core Banking sales team, Financial Services solutions initiative in UK,SA ,Ireland and NL, introduction of the first strategic partnership in EMEA with TEMENOS and finally the Large Complex deals initiative in FS. On leaving IBM he spent 4 years as Vice President of TCS Europe responsible for FS solutions including core banking systems.
More recently he has acted as a consultant for several services companies entering the Financial Services market and also focussed on M&A activity.

GLOBAL BANK

Budget/Spend/Scale: $150m, involving over 400 people

The role

The role taken by Mike Hunter was to head up the largest core banking transformation project in North America covering all systems, processes, infrastructure, policies and organisation, for both the retail and commercial banking operations for lending and deposits.

What we did

This involved evaluating and selecting COTS core banking software from all the major software providers; building the business case for the largest spend the bank had ever authorised; building consensus across the bank from front office through to senior executives for the business case, the scope and the recommended solution; choosing the preferred supplier that then led to the implementation.

The Result

The result was the delivery of a world class core banking system that fundamentally improved the time and cost performance of processes throughout the banks activities. The bank moved from an old technology that was no longer supportable; the 100+ employees who became part of the delivery team increased their skills and motivation; and IT component of Time to Market for the launch of new products was reduced from 9 months to a few minutes.

WORLDWIDE BANK

Role

Nigel Pinches led the roll-out of a new branch system in a worldwide bank, business transformation and replacement of multiple core banking systems in the UK and European banks and data centre consolidation in a European bank.

What we did

We represented the businesses in building the business cases and requirements with multiple vendors (hardware, software and services ) and internal IT. In execution we oversaw the delivery and aligned the expectations against the agreed objectives and the timescales decreed by the respective boards.

The Result

The delivery and successful roll-out to over 900 x branches, call-centres and internet of the required services to achieve the business objectives on time. In terms of business transformation, efficiencies of reduction of total cost of operation by 20% and productivity in excess 30% were achieved. New products were introduced and revenue targets met. Both the back and front office operations were streamlined and new function introduced on time within the allocated budgets
